With the increase of insecticide resistance, several compounds, including emamectin benzoate, indoxacarb, chlorfenapyr, lufenuron, and tebufenozide, have become the main force on the marke. These compounds have different mechanism of action, insecticidal spectrum and cost. Each of them has advantages and disadvantages, and has its place in the market. So, exactly which one is more advantageous?
1.The mechanism of action of four pesticides
Chlorfenapyr: It has contact killing and stomach poisoning with internal absorption. Its permeability in the plant leaves is strong, and has no effect on killing eggs.
Indoxacarb: It has contact killing and stomach poison and no effect on killing effect.
Tebufenozide: It has stomach poison and limited contact killing,no permeability and internal absorption in phloem. It has a high activity on controlling eggs.
Lufenuron: It has stomach poison and contact killing ,no internal absorption. It has a strong effect on killing eggs.
These four types of compounds are mainly relied on stomach toxicity, if used with penetrating agent/spreading agent(mainly silicone), the insecticidal effect will be greatly improved.
2.Insecticidal spectrum Comparison
Chlorfenapyr:It has a good controlling effect on piercing-sucking and chewing pests and borers and part of mites, especially on diamond back moth, beet armyworm, prodenia litura, thrips, red spider (mite).
Indoxacarb: It is mainly used to control beet armymoth, diamond back moth, corn moth, thumbal moth, cotton bell worm, smoke worm, leaf moth, moth and other lepidoptera pests.
Tebufenozide: It has a great control effect on lepidoptera pests, especially on cotton bollworm, cabbage worm, diamond back moth, and beet armymoth.
Lufenuron: It is mainly used for the control of leaf roller, diamondback moth, cabbage worm, beet armyworm, whiteflies, thrips, rust lice and other pests, and the control effect on rice leaf roller is prominent.
Insecticidal spectrum:chlorfenapyr>lufenuron>indoxacarb>tebufenozide
3.Comparison of acting speed
Chlorfenapyr: One hour after normal application, the activity of the pests begins to weaken, the color of the insect change, the activity gradually stop. And the behavioral characteristics such as coma and paralysis appear, which finally lead to death, reaching the peak of dead insects in 24 hours.
Indoxacarb: After the application, the insects stop feeding within 4 hours;the insect body gets into paralysis and coma, the action ability is significantly reduced (usually the nymphs will fall from the crop), and generally die within 1 to 3 days after the application.
Tebufenozide: After entering into the bodies of pests,it can disturb and destroy the original hormone balance , and lead to food refusal. Generally, the pests stop harm after 5 hours of feeding, and the peeling reaction occurs in 12 days, leading to incomplete peeling, food refusal, systemic water loss, and finally death, reaching the peak of dead insects in about 3 days.
Lufenuron: After contacting with the agents and feeding the leaves with lufenuron, the nerves will be paralyzed within 2 hours, and gradually the feeding is stopped, reaching the peak of dead insects in 3 to 5 days.
Acting speed:chlorfenapyr>indoxacarb>tebufenozide>lufenuron
